Review #33

Landline by Rainbow Rowell turned out to be a book that surprised me. It was funny,  charismatic, and endearing like all of her other books, but it had an element of real fear that is new to her writing. Georgie was genuinely afraid of losing Neal; you could feel it when she remembered moments, when she called him over and over again, when she cried. It was a tangible element throughout the entire story, almost as real as the book pages themselves. This fear, longing, and love that tied Georgie to Neal even from ten states away is what made this novel so compelling. It is an insight into marriage, but also an insight into friendship and what it means to have a companion. I loved this book, and Rowell has impressed me once again.

I know, I know. I’m supposed to be reading Glass Sword. But chapter after chapter it’s been nothing but war talk and it’s so not cheerful. So instead, I snuck to my bookshelf and grabbed Fangirl. And now I’m reading it again 😀

Rainbow Rowell sure knows how to write a book.

Attachments was a laugh-out-loud, sweet, endearing, and shameless romantic comedy that had me cheering for Lincoln and Beth by the first few chapters. Every comment from Jennifer, every joke from Beth, and every hopeless act of love from our beloved IT guy made me want to jump into this story and meet them all. Although awkward and nerdy, Lincoln is a hero! He fell in love with a girl who he had never talked to or seen, just by reading her personal emails that she sent to her best friend. How sweet is that? Okay, it’s sounds really creepy when you put it like that, but Lincoln and Beth were meant to be no matter how they found each other. Jennifer and Beth’s friendship was hilarious, and I absolutely loved how Lincoln made friends with Doris (Or was it the other way around?). Rainbow Rowell has written some of my favorite books of all time, and Attachments is definitely now one of them. Thank you to her for writing a story of love that didn’t start face to face.

I love Rainbow Rowell! Fangirl, Eleanor & Park, and Carry On were spectacular! I’m about to read another one of her novels that will undoubtedly be just as amazing as her others. I’m excited for Attachments.
