Review #24

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard sweeps you into a world of Red and Silver, nobody’s and nobles, fighters and rulers.

*SERIOUS Spoilers*

I really enjoyed this book; Mare is a true diamond in the rough, but not because of the Silver lies that surrounded her identity. It’s because she fought for the rebellion that she knew would save her people even though it meant risking her head. Prince Cal… Aveyard made me love him then hate him then love him again for Mare, but Prince Maven… I was rooting for him from the start.

Until we find out he’s evil, sadistic, and a lying devil just like his mother.

This book has some tremendous antagonists and villains. I really really really wanted Evangeline to just disappear completely throughout the entire series, I couldn’t stand Queen Elara, and my heart was absolutely SHATTERED when Maven showed his true colors. I can’t believe I didn’t see it coming.

Anyway, this book was really interesting and I had no choice but to read it until it was finished mostly in one night. The characters were deep and complex, and the kingdom that Aveyard weaved was dark, brutal, and other-worldly, much like the Silvers. I can’t wait to find out what happens next for Mare, Cal, and the rest of the Scarlet Guard.

With Smiles,

Ivy B. Lake
